Eviction Help Illinois
Many people in Illinois are struggling to make ends meet and unable to pay rent. This is due to decades of housing and income disparity, combined with Covid-19-related hardships. State and federal eviction moratoriums delayed the loss of housing. However, it did not remove the threat of eviction. In response, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) helped launch Eviction Help Illinois.
The goal of Eviction Help Illinois is to:
• Keep people in their homes, and
• Prevent foreclosures on rental property.
The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation (IEJF) is giving money to legal aid and mediation groups to do this work. You can get help with your housing issues through this network of 16 non-profit groups. These groups are throughout the State of Illinois.
We encourage you to reach out if you’re worried about losing your housing. You can call (855) 631-0811 to talk with a legal aid professional and decide your next steps. You can also visit evictionhelpillinois.org.
